Dr. Michael Tsounis was admitted in 1997 to the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and to the Officers Military Medical School (SSAS) from where he graduated in 2003. He specialized in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at 'Agia Sophia' Children’s General Hospital, at 'Konstantotopoulio' General Hospital of Nea Ionia and at the First University ENT Clinic of the Hippocrates Hospital of Athens.
After completing his specialization in Greece, he extended his training for more than 2 years in paid positions at the Charing Cross Hospital of the Imperial College of Medicine in London, at the Queen's Medical Center of the University of Nottingham and at the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam. The subject of his further specialization is Rhinology and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery focusing on Rhinoplasty and Functional Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery. He was trained by leading surgeons in this field such as Prof. Gilbert Nolst Trenite, Prof. Wytske Fokkens, Prof. Hesham Saleh, Prof. Anshul Sama and Dirk Jan Menger. At the same time, he had the opportunity to perform a large number of operations of the entire spectrum of Otorhinolaryngology for Adults and Children such as septoplasties, thyroidectomies, tonsillectomies, adenotomies, etc., and to come into clinical contact with a multitude of cases. He remains an active member of the ENT department of the Imperial College of Medicine and the ENT clinic of the University of Nottingham as an Honorary Rhinology Fellow , regularly participating in the surgery and outpatient program as well as in research activities.
He is a member of the European Rhinological Society, the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and the Hellenic Audiological Society, and also one of the Registered Specialist Otorhinolaryngologists of the General Medical Council of England. His research studies have been published extensively and he holds a PH.D. from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has participated as a speaker, as a trainer and as a trainee in many international conferences and hands-on dissection courses.
Since 2014, he has been the Director of the ENT department of the Athens Central Clinic of the Hellenic Police Headquarters. He maintains a private practice in Athens, 163A Mesogeion Avenue, while also operating in well-known private clinics and hospitals. Since 2022 he is the Head and Director of the Functional Rhinoplasty Department of Leto Hospital in Athens, Greece.
